Media Chaos and Hidden Agendas like Cap & Trade

Feathers in His Cap.

The daily media chaos with Obama still in campaign mood for Health reform, and other issues, in my opinion, is just a frenzy to cover up other significant changes in policy which will further directly affect our wallets. Just when you think things could not get worse, this morning October 6, 2009, at 3:06am, AP Breitbart released a press release stating that president Obama Signed an Executive Order to expand on the Energy Policy act of 2005. Just another feather in his cap.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 is a bill passed by Congress on July 29, 2005, and signed into law by President Bush on August 8, 2005. The act was an attempt to combat growing energy problems by providing tax incentives and loan guarantees for energy production of various types.

Americans should know that In an Executive order # 13423 signed Monday, Obama required all agencies to do what he wants companies operating power plants, running refineries and making automobiles to do: reduce heat-trapping gases. The order also compels agencies to curb petroleum use, conserve water and curtail waste—extending and expanding on an order issued by Bush. Bush's order, unlike Obama's, did not require agencies to set emissions targets. Let’s be clear that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history.

This is the first step towards implementing the new Cap & Trade program.

While a successful cap and trade program rewards innovation, efficiency, and early action and provides strict environmental accountability without inhibiting economic growth, the Obama White House admits that this cap and trade policy will increase energy costs for Americans, and admits that this policy will give government more money to blow. Even White House Budget Director Peter Orszag this week on Stephanopolous, admitted that Obama's proposed cap and trade energy legislation will increase energy costs for everyone.

How will this affect your wallet?

The whole point of cap and trade is to hike the price of electricity and gas so that Americans will use less. These higher prices will show up not just in electricity bills or at the gas station but in every manufactured good, from food to cars. Consumers will cut back on spending, which in turn will cut back on production, which results in fewer jobs created or higher unemployment. Some companies will instead move their operations overseas, with the same result.

The President earlier this year, also issued a memorandum to the Department of Energy to implement more aggressive efficiency standards for common household appliances, like dishwashers and refrigerators. Through this step we‘re told that, over the next three decades, we’ll save twice the amount of energy produced by all the coal-fired power plants in America in any given year. Oh really?

A CBS News blogger named Declan McCullagh seized on the documents, which CEI obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, and said: "The Obama administration has privately concluded that a cap and trade law would cost American taxpayers up to $200 billion a year, the equivalent of hiking personal income taxes by about 15 percent." He added: "At the upper end of the administration's estimate, the cost per American household would be an extra $1,761 a year." But in a recent Washington Post article the administration disputes these figures by blacking out the actual cost.

The government taketh and the Government giveth.

The Wall Street Journal says that the hardest hit areas will be the Midwest, Southern and Plain states which rely on manufacturing or fossil fuels -- particularly coal, which generates the most power.

But let’s not worry just yet, according to the Washington Times, the legislation includes language that provides, should it become law, that people who lose their jobs because of it "could get a weekly paycheck for up to three years, subsidies to find new work and other generous benefits—courtesy of Uncle Sam."

How generous are these benefits? Well, according to the Times, "Adversely affected employees in oil, coal and other fossil-fuel sector jobs would qualify for a weekly check worth 70 percent of their current salary for up to three years. In addition, they would get $1,500 for job-search assistance and $1,500 for moving expenses from the bill's 'climate change worker adjustment assistance' program, which is expected to cost $4.2 billion from 2011 to 2019."

And just when you think you can’t afford to meet the new standards, the government will give you a tax credits of up to 30% of the cost or $1500. The implementation cost outweighing the benefits.

You may be saying to yourself at this point “that doesn’t sound so bad”, so let me ask you this; How successful has anything been the government tried, like ‘Cash for Clunker’ or the ‘Health reform’ or ‘Gitmo’, or the ‘Stimulus” in creating new jobs? Should I continue? Also, where is al this money coming from? More debt to deal with, and more unemployment?

If you are interested in finding out more try looking for 'Climate' instead of Cap & Trade, just like everything else this too has been renamed.

Are you the least bit concerned? With all this Chaos, who’s watching our back?

Editors Note: from an Oct 11, 2009 update:

Billionaire George Soros, looking to address the “political problem” of climate change, said he will invest $1 billion in clean-energy technology and create an organization to advise policy makers on environmental issues. Soros, 79, also will establish the Climate Policy Initiative, a San Francisco-based organization to which he will donate $10 million a year for 10 years. “The system can be gamed; that’s why financial types like me like it -- because there are financial opportunities,” Soros said at a London School of Economics seminar.

I only hope enough of us Blog, talk, scream or whatever it takes to wake up Joe six pack in time. How could the American People have been so blind to not only elect him but the rest of his Marxist Gang pushing this crap!

I do not understand how a President can do executive orders. This takes out all congress and balances. Executive orders should not be allowed, or voted on by congress afterwards. This is so stupid.

Thanks for the infor. I have been busy, and not had much time to check out anything.

Keep on Hubbing!

Obama is a clear and present danger to the United States of America. He is purposely doing everything in his power to devalue our currency and create massive unemployment. Then, like any good socialist, he will blame it all on the "rich" and say the only thing that can save us is the government.

I hate to say this; but if 2010 doesn't bring us the changes we need to save our Country, then violence may be our only recourse. Millions of Americans, gathering in Washington, standing together, and physically taking back our constitution. I hope it doesn't come to that. But if it does, I'll be right in the middle of it.

The gift that keeps on giving. For over a year I've referred to our President as an intern who the chance to play brain surgeon. I've adjusted that view tonight. It would suggest an intern simply doesn't know what he is doing. Obama knows EXACTLY what he is doing--putting the government in charge of everything.

The political class believes they know better than any of us normal taxpayers...and they are going to prove it.

I was thinking today of what would one do to take back the government from the socialist leftists that are now in charge. (and yes there are REPUBLICAN and DEMOCRAT members in that group). Frankly, I wouldn't know where to start.

Do you, by executive order, disband all government agencies as of xx date? Where do you start?

If you want a scary read, and one I think is much closer than further away for our country, Dmitry Orlov wrote a book on the collapse of the Soviet Union, Reinventing Collapse. He draws a DIRECT correlation to the US today.

Imagine a US that can't get credit to buy oil. What happens when that comes to pass?

Goods including food can't be transported. What is transported costs many times what it does now to get in the stores. Without oil, there's no supply to grocery stores. Without oil, a good portion of America is in the dark. Without the ability to move easily, purchasing of any goods stops. Businesses lose the ability to make money and close down, killing jobs.

Our current President is going to be historic. He will be the one, along with the Congress, that duplicates the disaster that was the Soviet Union collapse of the mid 1980's. The parallels are frightening.

Dean77, I was equally amazed when I was writting this that the purpose of the cap & trade is "to hike the price of electricity and gas so that Americans will use less." Is this some kind of joke? Thank you even though 2010 will be interesting, I may just be to late to change the things implemented by then.

Tony, I'm sure there is some tax out there for that too!

TheGuru, I'm glad it's just not me who thinks that without oil we cannot do much. Ok, maybe we should be weened off or drill more, I'm not sure of the answer, but to drastically try to overturn everything is just Chaos. Thank you for stopping it.

Eovery, here is the answer: executive orders are orders issued by the President to US executive officers to help direct their operation, the consequence of failing to comply is removal from office. Great, just great!

Another powerful expose of an administration on a crash course with the electorate. Great hub. You could title it "Punishment to the People".

jiberish,

In the world of poker there is a term called "blowback". It's used to describe what happens to chips gained by reckless or unskilled players. The premise is this, anyone can seize the chip advantage at the table, but only a skilled player can keep them and use them wisely to gain more chips. The player that falls victim to "blowback" is often called a "donkey". This is the scenario that I predict will play out politically speaking. The Dem's have used a lot of eloquent, but empty rhetoric to gain power. Their proposed policies however are reckless. The American people will make this all too clear to them in 2010. President Obama will find himself without the power of the senate behind him. My only fear is how much of my chip stack will be lost between now and then! Great Hub!

Sadly the government has become a smoke and mirrors game. They have media outlets making a big deal out of nothing, to effectively take the regular persons eye off the ball while they kick it up our A$$.

The end results of what is done this year will effectively ruin the financial future of our kids and their kids and how much further I don't know and will never live to see.

So based on that, I love America, but in order to save Her we need to Burn Her to the ground and take Her back!

It will come to that, sadly. I just hope it does while I can still rise up and assist in the battle.

Great hub!

jiberish, I think you would be better off if you did research into programs that you talk about instead of just repeating what Glenn Beck and the other people on fox news say. Beck and his buddies are making a fortune hoodwinking people with their fear mongering tactics. We definitely will fail at everything we try to improve in this country as long as we elect people who really want to do something positive, but are smeared and discredited at every turn.
